Some feature of Amader Gouripur


1. Location:
Gouripur Upazilla is situated 20 kilometres away to the eastern side from the district head quarter. There is railway and road transportation with the district head quarter. The old Brahamaputra is situated to the western side of this Upazilla head quarter. There are many remarkable historical places in this Upazilla. These places attract the tourists.
2. The title of Upazilla:
The actual title of this Upazilla is unknown. According to the idea of someone, Mr. Krisna, the land lord of Gouripur had a daughter named Gouri. It’s name is Gouripur after her name. But the idea of the maximum people, Gouripur was named after the name of theGouridevi godess of the Hindus.
3. The birth of Upazilla:
This Upazilla was separated from Ishwargonj consisting of nine unions on the 30th October, 1981. One union named Sidhla is inclued from Phulpur Thana in 1988. The late president Ahasan Uddin Chowdhury declared the developed thana on the 15th December, 1982. After some period it became an Upazilla with the proclation of the Government.
4. Area:
Phulpur and Purbadhala Upazilla is to the north, Ishwargonj Upazilla is to the south, Kendua Upazilla is to the east and Mymensingh head quarter is to the west of the Gouripur Upazilla.

Gouripur Rajbari


Once it was the Baganbari of the land lord. At present the offices of Upazilla Parisad Court Building and Quarters constructed here. The Gool Pond and the artificial Lane still bear the testimony of the land lord.

The Huzrakhana of Nizam Uddin Aowlia

There is a Huzrakhana of Nizam Uddin Awolia in Bokainagar. He rested here. Every year held Baishakhi Mela in this place.

The mosque at the time of Dewan Omar Khan


At the time of Dewan Omar Khan there is a mosque at village Kumri. It was reconstructed in 1972. Still the mosque is there.

Killa Bukainagar


At the time of Aurangazab this killa was built by the then Subedar of Bengal. One mosque was built and one pond dug with it. The next Subedar Chad Roy also built a killa and a mondir with it. The residual of mosque and mandir still exists. The two ponds have been filled up. Now it is used as an agricultural land. Chad Roy also constructed a bridge near the Bukainagar riailway station. Now the bridge disappeared.

Killa Tazpur


There was a Killa or fort of one Dewan of Bara Bhuia. There was a wide wall around the Killa.

The grave of Birangona Shakina


Birangona Shakina lies the village Komri in Maoha Union. Here Shakina fought against her father in disguise of man to rescue her husband. After getting divorce from her husband, she died falling down from horse back’s. But the divorce letter was fake.
